The Atlantic temperature oscillations are initiated by a radical change in 'deep water convection' in the subpolar gyre area (blue graph below), which is the engine of heat transfer around the North Atlantic, then the oscillations rapidly move towards the Equatorial area (magenta graph).
The AMO is not driven by the solar cycles as spectral analysis show:
